The course provides students with basic information about the structure of the Earth, the theory of global plate tectonics, the origin and classification of rocks, rock-forming minerals including clay minerals and the influence of mineral composition of rocks on construction practice, the properties of rocks as foundation soils and as construction materials, the structures and mineral composition of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks and their physical and index properties, endogenic and exogenic geological processes and phenomena, hydrogeology and regional geology.
In practical exercises, emphasis is placed on acquiring the ability to assess the properties of rocks as foundation soils.
